i (Oh my gosh) S, & A Spit Shine

So I'm in the air and I noticed the guy beside me and the guy behind me both are enjoying iPads. Add that to the ones the two forty year old women I was talking to in the terminal AND mine, you get five (at least) on this flight alone (plus there are only 40 or so passengers on this flight). This news doesn't surprise me too much since Apple knocked out HP's touchpad and Charlotte ranks 11th among iPad use. Nevertheless, it's just a testament to the ever changing world of portable technology. Grab hold and let's see where it takes us.

In other news, I got my first official shoe shining at the airport today. He did a good job, and it was only $5. I gave him a $5 tip because I thought it would be more anyways and he looked sad when I walked up. Being dressed up while traveling is fun.....come to think of it, dressing up is fun period. Maybe it's my expensive taste that leads me to feel this way, or it could be the fact that in Scouts we travelled in our uniforms.

See you on the other side

Week 1 Summarized

So my first week went well. Monday and Tuesday were full of training and orientation, and the rest of the week was more or less spent working with sketchup to model an interiors job we recently broke ground on. They want to use the model for sequencing and coordination which is difficult because we only have PDF drawings to go off of and the architect didn't dimension enough things to accurately model. Anyways, I got my feet wet and rust off before 8 weeks of intense BIM training.

The people in the office are cool, it's a world of difference compared to the field trailer that I experienced last year. They may give me some flak for being overdressed (more on that in a later post), but everything is going well so far.

Tomorrow I head to Woodcliff Lake, NJ for training and I couldn't be more excited. There will be 20 other college recruits that will be similar to me, so I can't wait to meet them. Anyways, I have to go finish packing (2 checked bags and 2 carry ons). The last time I packed like this I was going to Australia!

The First Day of the Rest of My Life

I feel like I've had this experience many times before. You know the one, the night before, and morning of, the first day of classes (regardless of the education level). Going stir crazy in your bed TRYING to fall asleep because you know you need to be well rested, but you just came off a long summer break where waking up late was the norm. Then, after some decent sleep, you almost spring up out of bed, of course before the alarm goes off (in this case 1 hour before), because you are mentally anxious to start. Maybe this is the last time I will get to have this experience?

For those of you that do not know me, my name is Ryan Pastor and I graduated in May from Clemson with a degree in Construction Management. The new job? Dare I say it......my dream job, to start of working for the nation's leading commercial contractor in the highly technical and technology heavy realm of BIM. So why am I blogging? What could compel me to do such a thing that I've only attempted one other time? 3 reasons: to document an important and life changing time in my life, to keep my family and friends updated, and to share my experience with those that are younger than me to give them lessons learned.

A lot of memories over my past 22 years. Countless people that have been put into my life to help me get to this very moment, parents, girlfriend, teachers. And with Jesus by my side, nothing is going to stand in my way. So here I go, the first day of the rest of my life begins......now.
